VISIT TO CHINA
MR R. B. TENNENT RETURNS INVESTIGATION FOR U.N.R.R.A. (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 11. After a short visit to China, where he investigated the suitability of the conditions for New Zealand dairy cattle, Mr R. B. Tennent, Deputy Director-general of the Department of Agriculture, returned to New Zealand by flying boat from Sydney. He left
the Dominion on July 17, and travelled to and from China by air. His visit was the result of a request by U.N.R.R.A. for stock, but before it could be sent it was necessary to find out whether the conditions in China were suitable for the New Zealand type. Mr Tennent said there was little he could discuss until he had reported to the Government. There was no doubt that China was very short of breeding stock, which had been depleted by the Japanese.
