Golden Acre was injured while he was being unloaded from the steamer at Lyttelton, and he will not be able to race here. . , Lady Chips has poisoned one of her legs, but, though she will have to miss the Brabazon Handicap, T. L. Jennings hopes to start her in the Winter Cup, her only other engagement. The outside of the course at Riccarton was soft for this morning's work. There were plenty of horses, but many of them did only useful tasks. Bonnv Flight showed brilliant speed over a half mile in 50sec. This was easily the outstanding gallop of the morning, the next best half mile, by Sing Sing and Western Front, being 51 l-ssec. Fiery Knight took 54 2-ssec and Avonbridge 55sec, which Queen’s General and Regal Lily equalled. Confusion and Hart Royal went up the back in 52 2-ssec. Foxchase and Runaway were on terms over five furlongs in lmin 6 2-ssec. and Burberry beat Denim narrowly in lmin 6 3-ssec. Lowry Bay and High Ideal took lmin 8 2-ssec, Rahine and Notary lmin 8 3-ssec. and Belle Leonne lmin 8 4-ssec.

Findon and Typhoon set the main for six furlongs, being well matched in lmin 19 3-ssec. Tutere shaded Knight Crusader in lmin 21 3-ssec, Salary was just in front of Lady Welbeck in lmin 22 2-ssec, Golden Souvenir and Bruce following in lmin 22 4-ssec, and Gallimanfry and Detain taking lmin 23 4-ssec. Bittersweet was a short length in front of Surnra at the end of seven furlongs, in lmin 36 3-ssec.

Trueway jumped well’in a school over four hurdles till he hit the last, losing his rider, who held on and later got his mount over safely. Spanish Main and. Roman Ned gave a good showing over eight fences. Noble Robert and Golden Glow went over eight fences at a sound hunting pace. Noble Robert hit. the first of the double the last time, but his rider recovered cleverly. Endurance and Sphere jumped in smart style over four hurdles, with the former gaining ground at each obstacle. Bank Raid, after running off at the board fence, went on to complete a round of the fences, Jumping well. J. Mitchell arrived yesterday from Waimate with Western Front, Sphere, Golden Glow, Tin Hat, Majestic Fox, and Wild Note. Other horses from the south are Runaway, Foxchase, Spanish Main, and Soft Light. North Island arrivals this morning were Tideover, Bramble Song, Bronze Night, Dumbo. Brantome, Nepeta. and Verdant.

F D. Jones gave Leigh Barton good work this morning. He seems to have improved, though still showing signs of soreness. ,
