SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

SHORTAGE OF MAN-POWER (Rec. 1 a.m.) LONDON, July 9. The British Empire for some years to come would be faced with an acute shortage of scientific man-power, said the Leader of the House of Commons, Mr Herbert Morrison, opening the British Commonwealth Scientific Official Conference. There was a risk that an over-elaborate organisation might result in absorbing into the administrative machine many scientifically-trained men who were badly needed in research laboratories. It was undesirable that too many scientific men should be transferred from laboratories tc offices. Mr Morrison added that the British Government was determined that science should play its proper role in the formation of Government policy.
