REMEMBRANCE DAY

Sir,—Over two months ago a motion put by the War Amputees’ Association and passed at the annual general meeting of the Dunedin R.S.A. requested the executive of the R.S.A. to convene a meeting of the servicemen’s associations for the purpose of, investigating the desirability of carrying on Anzac Day in its present form. Since then nothing has been heard of this matter. Tills, I understand, is nothing new with the R.S.A. as seldom are motions carried by members at a renerai meeting ever heard of again. The R.S.A. throughout New Zealand have asked the servicemen of the 2nd N Z.E.F. to use Anzac Day as a day of remembrance of their dead. What would the servicemen of the Great War have said if they had been told to use Trafalgar Day as a day of remembrance of their dead? I understand the General Conference of the N.Z.R.S.A. carried a motion recently requesting the Governmrnt to alter thf act to include the 2nd N.Z.E.F. dead on Anzac Day. What a gracious gesture, but after all. we of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. had a war of our own.- We had pride in our Division and we pride ourselves on our individuality too much to clothe our dead in a memory made legal by a second-hand altered act. If it is not the intention of the Dunedin R S.A. Executive to hold the meeting as directed by its members, then I suggest that the Amputees Association, who are a really live body, convene the meeting themselves as this is not an R.S.A. matter but one which affects everyone who fought or lost a aelative in war.— I am, etc.. Dlv Cav. July 8.
