HAKAS IN SYDNEY
COUNTER TO DELINQUENCY CHIEFTAINESS AS TUTOR SYDNEY. July 7. From a Maori chieftainess, Waikanga Ipene, teen-age boys in Darlinghurst and King’s Cross are learning to dance the haka. This is part of the scheme by welfare organisations to keep youths out of mischief and off the streets. “I am convinced that delinquency in children can be prevented by teaching them to let off steam with native dances, which are, after all. designed for this purpose, ’ said the organiser of the community centre at which hakas are practised.
