WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
Dunedin Club.—Mrs Morrison presided. The motto was: “ He that serves his country well, does not stand in need of ancestors,” and the roll call, “ Uses of stale bread, and food for Britain.” The remits for the forthcoming conference in Wellington were fully discussed. The competitions resulted: Bloom—Mrs Kewish 1, Mrs Robinson 2; Yeast Loaf —Mrs Butler 1, Mrs Morrison 2; article made from flour bags—Mrs Butler 1, Mrs Vincent 2. A demonstration in smocking was given by Mrs Vincent. Members were asked to bring food for Britain every month Sutton—Mrs Kidd welcomed 30 members and guests, including visitors from the Middlemarch Institute and W.D.F.U. to the thirteenth birthday party, on Saturday last. A programme of competitions, games and musical items proved very enjoyable. The birthday cake was made and presented by Mrs Terry. The " thought ” was one of Miss Olive Mercer's poems, ..." The Common Day,” and the roll call’ "A short humorous story or joke.” The committee members were the hostesses.
