CHANGING FORTUNES

Mornington and Roslyn-Wakari met at Ellis Park in a fast, end-to-end struggle, which kept the spectators fully interested. Both teams adopted hard kicking tactics and never at any stage did either side settle down to close combined movements. Mornington was first to score when McSkimming broke through from midfield. Kelly put Mornington further ahead when, from a free kick, he followed up to score close in. Wilson, for Roslyn, went close with a long range shot. Roslyn again took play to Mornington’s end and Welham scored. Garrick equalised a few minutes later. This enabled Roslyn to open up the game, but the Mornington defence provided strong resistance. Eventually, Wilson drove hard for goal, Webster failing to hold it, and it entered the net. Roslyn, at this stage, relaxed, and Mornington took up the attack. Webster scored for Mornington, making the scores three all. With only a few minutes left both teams tried hard to obtain the winning goal, and Mornington was successful when Schofield found the net with a smart drive. The game ended: Mornington 4, RoslynWakari 3. Mr W. M. Smith was the referee.
