WIN FOR DUNEDIN
FAST GAME AT MOSGIEL
Dunedin beat Taieri in a fast game at Mosgiel by 18 points to 12. In the early stages it appeared that the home side would receive a severe trouncing, as Dunedin had scored 10 points in almost as many minutes, but the Dark Blues were not able to maintain the pace and the Taieri defence improved considerably. « Dunedin owed its success largely to the fact t(iat it secured the ball from nearly every sst scrum, while two speedy and resourceful wing three-quarters, M. McKercher and B. Pettit, were always dangerous. The transfer of B. Wilkins from the forwards to full-back was an important factor in strengthening the Taieri defence, and the kicking and tackling of the first fiveeighths J McLeod, also saved the side in many awkward situations. Both sides failed to take full advantage of the opportunities that offered in the second spell, which was bright and open, but the home team dominated most of the play and narrowly missed scoring on two or three occasions. Dunedin, however, would have been unlucky to have been beaten, as it showed much better team-work, particularly in the first spell. ■ . _ For Dunedin tries were scored by C. Todd. T. Howell. D. Low, and McKercher, C. McHerron converting three. For the losers. B. Wilkins kicked three Penalty goals and J. Treloar scored a try. The referee was Mr J. Garthwaite.
