UNIVERSITIES’ TEAM
WELLINGTON B DEFEATED (P.A.) WELLINGTON. July. 7. Often brilliant and, for most of the time, a highly interesting match between the New Zealand Universities and Wellington B resulted in a win for the. Universities by 20 points to 14. The game was played at Athletic Park on Saturday before a crowd of about 14,000 in excellent weather. The Universities had plenty of the ball in the line outs and scrums, and their backs thrust more, but Wellington showed an almost indomitable resistance under pressure. The general brightness of the play could be gauged from the fact that, of the total points, only seven came from kicking, the remainder being the result of tries, of which there were nine, all following on forward and back moves or sparkling dashes by backs. For the Universities, Groome, Jacobs (2), Elvidge, Kelly and Shannon went over’. Greig converting one try, and for Wellington, Jaeger (2) and Dalton scored, Sewell kicking a penalty and Vaughan converting one trv. **
