THE JEWISH QUARTER (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, July 6. The Sixth Airborne Division of paratroops, armed with tommy-guns and supported by Bren carriers, made a surprise raid on the Jewish quarter inside the Arab town of Jaffa, says Reuter's Tel-Ayiv correspondent Soldiers hunted through dilapidated slum houses, searching for the hiding place where the three kidnapped British officers were imprisoned for 16 days. Powerful radio transmitters were used to jam Palestine’s three illegal broadcasting stations. The Palestine police state that they have received reliable information that Otto Freund and Benjamin Apanek, two Czech Jews, who were kidnapped by other Jews at Haifa on Wednesday, have been executed, says the Jerusalem correspondent of the American Associated Press. The two Jews are stated to have been convicted by “ the Jewish People's Higher Court ” on a charge that they revealed the location of an arms dump to the British. The police denied that the men ever had any connection with the British authorities.
