ARAB TOWN OF JAFFA

The Sixth Airborne Division of paratroops, armed with tommy-guns and supported by Bren carriers, made a surprise raid on the Jewish quarter inside the Arab town of Jaffa, says Reuter's Tel-Ayiv correspondent Soldiers hunted through dilapidated slum houses, searching for the hiding place where the three kidnapped British officers were imprisoned for 16 days. The two Jews are stated to have been convicted by “ the Jewish People's Higher Court ” on a charge that they revealed the location of an arms dump to the British.
