TIMARU MEETING

HONEST SAL SUCCESSFUL STEEPLES TO APPEASEMENT The South Canterbury Jockey Club’s winter meeting was held on Saturday in fine weather, and attracted a fairly large attendance. The going was on the soft side.

Honest Sal won the Elloughton Handicap by staying on well and wearing down Desert Victory and Boolamskee in a good finish. Sing Sing looked dangerous at the home turn, but failed to stay on. The field for the Pareora Steeplechase completed the course, but gave an indifferent display of jumping. Appeasement won well in the run from the last fence.

Sanskrit was much too good at the weights for the opposition in the Seadown Handicap. The card was concluded well up to time, and during the day £28,001 was registered on the totalisator, compared with £30,862 at the May meeting in 1945.
