CONTROVERSY WITH B.M.A.

WELLINGTON, June 12. “I do not desire to comment at length on Mr Luke’s statement, except to say that a good medical service does not necessarily imply a system of private practice and a close personal relationship between doctor and patient,” said the Minister of Health (Mr A. H. Nordmeyer) to-day, when asked to comment on the official statement issued by the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association. “ On the other hand,” continued Mr Nordmeyer, “ there is some ground for believing that the close personal relationship between doctor and patient is liable to be injured by the monetary consideration which intervenes in some cases ”
