PALESTINE PROBLEM
AMERICA TO FRAME POLICY TASK FOR COMMITTEE WASHINGTON, (Rec. f< p.m.) June 11 President Truman announced the appointment of a Cabinet committee to assist him to formulate and implement a policy on Palestine and related problems. The committee consists of Mr James Byrnes. Mr R. P Patterson and Mr J. B. Snyder. Mr Byrnes announced that the United States was preparing to discuss with Britain what military forces America might make available to maintain order in Palestine during the period of increased Jewish immigration. He refrained from giving any impression that he favoured making any troops available. He explained that the British raised the various questions, therefore the United States would discuss them. Mr Byrnes said Mr W A. Harriman was discussing with the British Government a plan for a committee of British and American experts to study factors arising from increased Jewish immigration in Palestine.
