YEARS OLD MYSTERY
DISCOVERY OF SKELETON The discovery of the skeleton of a man on an Ongaonga farm may afford a solution to the 34-year-old mysterious disappearance of Leo Burnett, then aged 18, a cowboy, who did not return to his whare on the old Gwavas sta - tion one day in 1912. The skull had an unmistakable bullet hole in it, and a rusted rifle barrel was found nearby. Bones found on the side of the gorge led to further investigations, and digging revealed most of the skeleton. Burnett, whose father was at that time a Woodville lawyer, was a keen sportsman and usually carried a rifle with him.
