POISON IN MILK
HUSBAND’S ALLEGED ACTION,, ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE (PA.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 12. Alleged to have placed poison in a billy of milk outside his wife’s residence this morning, William Andrew Smythe, a metal worker, aged 51 years, was later arrested on a charge of attempted murder of his wife. He will be charged in the Magistrate’s Court to-morrow morning, when the police will apply for a remand. The police allegation is that Smythe, who had been living apart from his wife for 10 weeks, went to her residence about 9.15 this morning, placed a quantity of quick-acting poison in the milk, replaced the lid of the billy, and left the premises without being seen by the occupants. The billy and its contents were taken possession of by the police before they had been touched by Mrs Smythe, and after an analysis of the contents Smythe was arrested.
The poison, it is alleged, has been analysed as a highly-dangerous substance acting in a small quantity with rapidity. ■
