PRICES SLIGHTLY FIRMER (P.A.) INVERCARGILL June 11. Yardings at the Lorneville sale to-day were not large, although the entries in some sections were better than those of last week. The fat sheep yarding was 720, compared with 450 last week, and consisted of ewes and wethers in fairly equal proportions. Fully half the yarding was of good quality, the rest being light and unfinished The market was keen, and there was a slight improvement in wether values, ewes remaining firm at last week’s rates. Prime quality wethers made 46s to 495; good quality medium weights. 42s 6d to 455; and fight and unfinished sorts 33s to 41s. Extra good maiden ewes made to 365, good quality butchers’ ewes. 28s to 31s; medium quality sorts, 25s 6d to 275. Freezing ewes made 17s to 245, according to weight and quality. There were 207 fat lambs offered. Competition was keen, and values appeared to be in excess of the schedule rates. Prime quality lambs made to 40s, and medium quality freezing weights 28s to 30s The'fat cattle yarding was 63, compared with 77 last week, but there were sprne good quality medium and heavy-weight beasts. Compared with last week, prices were generally 20s a head better Heavy bullocks brought to £23 15s; good quality medium weights, £l9 to £2l; bandy weights, £l6 10s to £l7 10s; and light weights £l3 to £l4. Prime heavy cows made between £ls and £l6; good quality cows. £l2 to £l3 10s; medium sorts £9 10s to £11; aged and unfinished, £7 to £B. Prime quality medium-weight heifers brought from £l2 10s to ~14 10s; handy weights, £ll to £l2; and small lines, between £9 and £lO
