EXTENSION IN INDUSTRY LABOUR FEDERATION REMITS (P.A.) WELLINGTON. June 11. A committee to consider remits for submission to the Government on State control in industry was set up at the annual conference of the New Zealand Federation of Labour to-day. The extension of State control in numerous industries is sought in remits from unions and will be a subject for discussion also at the annual conference of the New Zealand Labour Party next week. The principal business of the federation to-day was the appointment rf committees to consider- remits on these and various other subjects, including policy, management and production, the constitution and administration of the federation, the Workers’ Compensation Act. the Factories’ Act. the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, and the Holidays’ Act. Mr A. McLagan. the retiring president. presided over the conference, which was attended by 180 delegates, representing 200 unions with a total membership of about 183,000. The first sections of the annual report presented bv Mr McLagan were dealt with. 'The election of officers, including the, new president of the federation, will be held on Thursday. The sections of the report dealt with and endorsed were those touching on New Zealand's transition from war to peace-time conditions in industry, the policy of economic stabilisation, the Walsh report, and legislation enacted by the Government.
