MANUFACTURERS' PLANS ALTERED SITE SHIFTED FROM DUNEDIN The Pacific Chenille-Craft Company, of Hollywood and Sydney, has revoked its decision to establish a factory in Dunedin, and having amalgamated with the New Zealand Chenille Tufting Company so far as its New Zealand operations are concerned, it will carry out production at the latter’s factory in Marton. This information was given to a Daily Times reporter yesterday by Mr J. C. McClelland, of Sydney, managing director of the Pacific Chenille-Craft Company, who said that the two companies would amalgamate under the name of his company. The Pacific Chenille-Craft Company acquired premises in Tewsley street which were formerly occupied as a warehouse, and it is the company’s intention to dispose of this building. It is understood that two or three local concerns which are desirous of expanding are negotiating for its purMr' McClelland said that his company believed in decentralisation and that it proposed to establish subsidiary factories in small towns where labour was available. Its products included candlewick chenille, dressing gowns, street coats, bed jackets, skeeter jackets, bath mats, and bedspreads. With the materials available it might be possible to produce only £IO.OOO worth of manufactured articles a month at the outset, he added, but the aim was production to the value of £25,000 a month. The company operated a factory occupying an area of acres at Goulburn, Australia, which had been converted from munitions production to chenille production.
