AMERICAN CONGRESS

REORGANISATION PROPOSED BILL BEFORE THE SENATE (Rec. 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 10. The Senate, by 49 votes to 6, passed a Bill to reorganise the machinery of Congress, provide additional professional aides for legislators, and give congressmen a 50 per cent, increase in salary to 15,000 dollars a year. The Bill would reduce the Senate's present 33 committees to 15, with most of the senators limited to membership of only two committees instead of six to ten on which they at present serve. Congress would adjourn annually in July except in time of war or national emergency. Congressmen would be permitted at their own discretion to pay into a pension fund. All lobbyists would have to be registered.
