HAPPY OCCASION

VISIT TO DUNEDIN SIR KEITH PARK’S LETTER OF APPRECIATION The appreciation of Lady Park and himself of the welcome extended to them in Dunedin was expressed by Air Chief Marshal Sir Keith Park in a letter to the Deputy Mayor (Mr J. McCrae) from Oamaru. “ I am writing to thank you most sincerely for the grand welcome given to Lady Park and myself by you and your city,” the letter reads. ‘‘We were both honoured to be given a civic reception, and wish to thank you and the councillors for organising the reception. My wife is thoroughly enjoying her first visit to New Zealand, and has several times remarked on the hospitality and sincerity of my fellow countrymen. Thank you again for your personal share in making our visit to your city a memorable and happy occasion.” Before their departure for Oamaru on Sunday, Sir Keith and Lady Park were taken for a tour of the city by Mr and Mrs McCrae. Sir Keith visited his old friend, Mr A. H. Fisher, at St. Clair, and Lady Park took the opportunity of paying a flying visit to the Red Cross Home at Montecillo in order to, leave some flowers for the They then' went to the Centennial Memorial at Signal Hill, and Sir Keith expressed delight with the panoramic view of the city and the surrounding country. On the return journey he pointed out to Lady Park his old home in Leith street. They went on to the Otago Boys’ High School, which LadyPark had not previously visited. She remarked to Mr McCrae that Sir Keith had spoken so much about his old school that, although she had not been there before, she felt that she was familiar with it.

A visit was also paid to the memorial block in Water street which marks the landing place of the first settlers, and Lady Park found it difficult to believe that the sea had once come up so far. *
