MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Oamaru branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held on Monday afternoon, Mrs Winn presiding. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of Miss Milligan, Mrs Cropp conducted the devotional period, the motto being “ Fear knocked at the door, Faith answered, and there was no one there.” The president thanked those who had assisted in the collection of food coupons. The speaker for the afternoon was Miss Brady, who had worked amongst (the Maori people as a Church Army worker and later as a Maori welfare worker. Generally speaking, said Miss Brady, the Maori people had done very well in the changeover to a new way of life. The girls’ hostel in Auckland, conducted under the auspices of the W.C.T.U.rwas doing great work along with the other Maori hostels.
