NORTH OTAGO UNION
Mr J. Macmillan (president) was in the chair at the weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the North Otago Rugby Union cn Monday night. There were also present Messrs M. F. Woodward. H. Cross, H. J. Strachan, A. R. Low, J. Benscn, D. S. Loder. J. Firman, W. Berry, and the secretary (Mr J. Corlett). Free school footballs were granted to the Kurow and Oamaru South Schools. South School was granted the use of Takaro Rark for practice. The Otago Union advised that it proposed to inaugurate the sub-union tours again this year, and desired to know if North Otago would be agreeable to play a match against a sub-union team at Oamaru on July 13.—The match was accepted. The South Canterbury Union wrote suggesting July 20 as the date for the representative fixture, South Canterbury v. North Otago, to be played at Oamaru The suggested date was accepted. The North Otago Rugby Referees’ Association advised that Messrs T. Cahill and C. Campbell were available and capable of controlling interprovincial matches.— Referred to the New Zealand Union. The secretary was instructed to communicate with the South Canterbury and Ashburton Unions in connection with the selection of a combined South Capterbury-Ashburton-North Otago teams to play the Australians at Timaru on September 11. It was decided to suggest that a selector from each union form the Selection Committee, such selectors to attend as many representative fixtures as possible before the match.
Mr Woodward reported that by July 6 three rounds of the Senior Competition would have been completed. Referring to the draw for Saturday (race day), Mr Macmillan stated that three senior teams were in favour of there being no senior draw for that date. It was decided to hold the fixtures on Saturday as usual. Mr Loder was appointed chairman of the Selection Committee, and Mr Berry chairman of the Grading Committee. Mr Woodward was appointed to a vacancy on the Grading Committee. There was some discussion on the state of the No. 2 ground at the Show Grounds. It was reported that- complaints had been received that the uneven surface was the cause of several accidents. Members of the Grounds Committee reported that some small holes, made by tent poles, had been filled in, but it had not been possible to do anything further with the grass cutting, as no available machines would do the job. It was stated that every endeavour would be made to improve the ground, but In the meantime senior teams would not be drawn to play on it. Draw for Saturday Seniors.—Old Boys v.
