ITALIAN COLONIES
DEADLOCK OVER FUTURE COMMISSION SUGGESTED LONDON, June 9. Mr Gladwyn Jebb, head of the British delegation, brought before the Foreign Deputies’ Conference yesterday a proposal aimed at breaking the deadlock over the future of the Italian colonies, says the Paris correspondent of The Times. .He proposed, in view of Britain’s pledge to the Senussi not to countenance the return of Italian domination, that a four-Power commission of inquiry visit Tripolitania and Cyrenaica, which have no Governments to speak for the population, and report back on June 20. Difficulties raised by other members of the conference included the objection that there would not be time to carry out the arrangements. The correspondent adds that the British proposal is likely, to lapse from the sheer impossibility of getting a decision in time .
