TROLLEY BUS PROPOSALS
CONSIDERATION BY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING ON THURSDAY A special meeting ol the Dunedin City Council will be held on Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock to discuss proposals of the Transport Committee in regard to the adoption of a trolley bus system and a report from the Finance Committee on the financial aspect of the scheme. Cr W. B. Taverner, chairman of the Finance Committee, informed a Daily Times reporter yesterday that he was unable to fix any date when a poll of ratepayers might be taken in regard to the trolley bus proposals, but it would probably be some time yet before this could be arranged. Explaining the procedure, Cr Taverner said that the council first had to reach a final decision in regard to a poll. Its decision was then conveyed to the Local Body Loans Board, and no poll could be taken until the sanction of the board was obtained. The board would probably submit the proposals to the Public Works Department first and also place them before the Treasury, after which it might be necessary to confer with the council in Dunedin. Until these details had been completed, Cr Taverner added, it would be impossible to hazard a guess as to the date of a poll.
