BEST-DRESSED WOMEN IN WORLD
The Duchess of Windsor has advanced to fifth place in the annual election of the world’s 10 best-dressed women. The New York Dress Institute has announced the results of the poll, which gave top honours to Mrs Stanley Mortimer, formerly Miss Barbara Cushing, who is related to the Whitney and Astor families. The Duchess of Windsor last year entered the list by a narrow margin, but in 1945 she moved up to the place held in 1944 by Mrs Clare Bpoth Luce, who has dropped to tenth position. Rosalind Russell, in eighth place, was the only Hollywood star on the list, which also included the well-known fashion designer, Valentina, Mrs Lawrence Tibbett, wife of the opera singer, and several members of New York society.
