BANK ROBBERY
THIRD MAN BEFORE COURT £I2OO NOW RECOVERED (P.A.) PALMERSTON N„ Mar. 28. Kenneth Hardy Brandon, a freezing worker, aged 20, of Palmerston North, who was arrested at Wanganui yesterday. was charged in the Magistrate’s Court this morning before justices of the peace that on March 25, at Bulls, being armed with offensive weapons (a Sten gun and two revolvers), he did rob Kenneth Hubert Allen of the sum of £2128. Detective Sergeant Power asked that the accused be remanded to next Wednesday, and Mr Crossley, who appeared for Brandon, raised no objection. The remand was accordingly granted. With the appearance of this man in court, the police search for the persons believed to be connected with the hold-up of the Bank of New Zealand at Bulls last Monday has ended, as only three men are believed to have been involved.
The police this morning visited a private house in Palmerston North, and, digging away the earthen floor of a tool shed, found a pickle bottle 18 inches below the surface containing £560 in notes. This is believed to be part of the money taken from the bank. In all, a sum of £I2OO, believed to be part of the £2128 which was stolen, has now been recovered.
