REFUGEE CHILDREN
TRANSFERRED TO AUCKLAND CARED FOR BY CATHOLIC COMMUNITY (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Feb. 14. Twenty-one Polish refugee children from the Pahiatua camp have come to Auckland at the invitation of Bishop Liston, and are being cared for by the Catholic community. Two girls, each aged 19 years, have entered the Mater Misericordiae Hospital to begin three years’ training in the public wards for their nurses’ certificates. The other girls, nine in number are guest boarders at the Sacred Heart Convent. Remuera, St. Mary’s College and other Catholic boarding schools in the city. _ , The 10 boys are attending the Sacred Heart (Marist Brothers) College and St. Feter’s (Christian Brothers), two being boarders at the former, and the remainder accommodated m private homes chosen by Bishop Liston. All have grown to love New Zealand, and are beginning to forget the hardships and sufferings they experienced when orphaned in their native land. ..
