NOTES FROM RICCARTON
WESTERN FRONT WORKED (Special) CHRISTCHURCH. Jan. 7. J. Mitchell was at Riccarton this morning with Western Front, who was given useful pace work. He looks well after his racing at Wingatui. The Waimate trainer will leave with his horse to-night on his way to Tre'ntham. G. Hampton has been engaged to ride him in the Wellington Cup. Though he was nominated also in the sprint, the present intention is to start Irish Note in the Wellington Cup, with A. C. Messervy as his rider. F. A P,.oberts nominated Belle Leonne for the Wellington meeting, but it is not certain now that she will accompany Irish Note and Blue Trout on the trip. Of the horses that J. A. Cox took to the West Coast, Trench Law was sold and was left behind. His place in the stable was taken by Prince Leighon, who was transferred to the care of Cox, after being purchased by Mr F. L. Turley on Saturday.
