Retired from Racing After Foremost Junior’s recent displays the Temuka trainer, A. Henderson, has decided to retire him. “He works well at home,” declared Henderson, “ but he is now meeting young and improving pacers, and he just can’t go with them.’’ Foremost Junior is an aged gelding by Logan Sun from Baker Girl. His last success was in the Trial Handicap at the Metropolitan Trotting Club’s August meeting in 1941. Successful Sires The progeny of 22 sires divided the stake money at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting, with Grattan Loyal heading the list with six wins and six minor placings for £4440. Then there is a big drop to Happy Voyage, with £I4OO, and he is followed by Jack Potts, £1225; U. Scott, £790; Quite Sure, £735; Great Bingen, £650; Sandydale, £597 10s; Swordsman, £490; Wrack, £425; Calumet Axworth, £425; Man o’ War, £400; Lusty Volo, £390; Worthy Bond, £282 10s; Red Shadow, £280; and Nelson Derby, £225. Records The New Zealand Trotting Association has not ruled on the point whether a record rests on winning times or placed times. Officials say that only winning times and trials against time are regarded as official records. Haughty has a winning record (in the New Zealand Trotting Cup of 1943) of 4min 13 3-ssec. Harold Logan has a place performance at Addington of 4min 12 2-ssec to his credit. In other parts of th * world only winning performances and trials against time are taken as official records.
