CAIRO OUTRAGE
SHOOTING OF SENATOR DEMONSTRATION AT FUNERAL CAIRO, Jan. 6. Thousands of youthful demonstrators jammed the mile-long procession of Osman Pasha’s funeral, shouting: “ Down with Nokrashy the Unjust! ” Eye-witnesses say the demonstrators spat on the police escorting the Premier, Nokrashy Pasha, when he arrived at Osman Pasha’s house for the funeral. Police investigations of the demonstrations is being carried out under the greatest secrecy. Reuter’s Cairo correspondent says (he Egyptian police believe that the arrest of the youth in connection with the assassination of Osman Pasha may clear up a series of political crimes, including the murder of British troops and the recent incident in which a bomb was thrown at Nahas _ Pasha. Police examination of the witnesses showed that only one man was involved in the shooting of Osman Pasha. The assassin, as Osman Pasha was entering the Old Victorians’ Club, called out: “Amin, amin.” When Osman Pasha turned, the assassin fired three times, then ran away, leaving the victim lying on the ground. Two Egyptian Air Force officers gave chase, and were joined by a crowd. The assassin ran across a square, from where he dashed into a side street and fired three times at his pursuers, then threw a small bomb, escaping in the confusion. Two revolvers were found in the street. It was later disclosed that the youth arrested is a son of Tewfik Ahmed Bey, Under-secretar:/ for Communications in the Egyptian Government. Ten persons were arrested and a policeman was injured when a large crowd of Wafdists demonstrated to-day outside Nokrashy Pasha’s office shouting violent anti-government slogans. The demonstration followed soon after Osman Pasha’s funeral.
