TORNADO IN TEXAS

HEAVY CASUALTY LIST WIDESPREAD DAMAGE (Rec. 8.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 6. Twenty-nine persons died, 106 were taken to hospital, and 740 were rendered homeless in a tornado which swept over a wide area of Texas. Damage amounting to upwards of 1,500,000 dollars was caused in timbered country. Among the towns affected were Palestine, which is 100 miles south-east of Dallas, Clawson, 60 miles from Palestine, Nacogdoches, 60 miles east of Palestine, and Piniel. 50 miles north-east of Dallas. The work of rescue parties was greatly hindered by blinding rain.
