SIR FREDERICK MORGAN

RESIGNATION REPORTED (Rec. 0.15 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 4. An U.N.R.R.A. official in Washington reported that Lieutenant-general Sir Frederick Morgan has resigned as chief of the U.N.R.R.A. operations in Germany. Organised groups of Jews are steadily moving to the south from Russia, Poland, Czechoslovakia and the Balkans towards Palestine, says the Daily Mail. Agents in most capitals of Eastern Europe are helping organised groups now on the move and provide them with money, names, addresses and contacts along the route who will help them on their journey to Southern Italy, from where the travellers hope they will be able to proceed to Palestine. The Daily Mail adds that many travellers are armed. They make a living during the journey in the “ black market ” or by whatever means present themselves. The trek, however, at present is ending in Southern Italy, where Jewish travellers find they are unable to enter Palestine. U.N.R.R.A. in the extreme southern tip of Italy is maintaining several camps in which the travellers are lodging until their fate is decided.
