AVOIDING CHAOS

ASSISTANCE FOR GREECE CONVERSATIONS IN LONDON (Rec. 0.30 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 4. Crucial decisions affecting the economic and political future of Greece may be expected to result from the meetings being held in London between the Greek Deputy Premier, M. Tsouderous. and the Minister of Supply, M. Cartalis, and members of the British Foreign Office and Treasury, says the Daily Telegraph’s diplomatic correspondent. Acting on the realisation that Greek economy cannot be allowed to deteriorate further without catastrophic results, the Greek delegation is placing a comprehensive analysis of the situation before the British representatives. American economic experts joined in the conversations, which are designed to devise a plan by which Greece may be saved from virtual bankruptcy and political chaos. The Greek thesis is that whatever mistakes may have been made by the previous Government, the crisis in reality is a legacy of the devastation suffered through German occupation. It is the business of the Greek delegation to impress both the British and American representatives that the problem is not merely the balancing of the Budget, but securing an overall arrangement with Britain and America by which help of a general character can be obtained. From the Greek point of view a credit or loan, together with a modified form of lend-lease agreement, is necessary to put. Greek economy on a durable basis.
