LAWLESS ELEMENTS STEPS FOR SUPPRESSION MANILA, Jan. 3. The Defence Department announced that 10,00 sub-machine guns have been issued to 19,000 members of the Filipino Army and military police for operations against lawless elements, particularly in Central Luzon. The military police also possess planes and field hospitals for the operations. The Associated Press says there have been persistent rumours that heavily I armed gangs are dominating local governments. Some are reported to be former guerrillas, while others are active in the agrarian movement against Luzon landlords.
