HOLIDAY WEATHER Ideal weather has prevailed for the past few days, broken only by a torrential downpour of about an hour's duration on Thursday morning. Although a number of the campers and their equipment received a drenching, it was possible to dry it all as the day remained fine. FRUIT SEASON Most orchardisls are now beginning their busy season, although the fruit is about three weeks later than is usually the ease. Early peaches are just commencing, and as a rule these lines do not last long. Early apricots are commencing to come forward, and cherries are now in good supply. CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL The committee which is raising funds for the erection of a pavilion and R.S.A. clubroom has been conducting a carnival during the past week to augment the funds, and as a result approximately £l6O has been collected. VITAL STATISTICS The following are the births, deaths, and marriages for the year 1945, the previous year’s figures being given in parentheses:— Births 24 (33), deaths 9 (16), marriages 5 (5). * PERSONAL Mr and Mrs W. R. Sinclair, of Dunedin, are visiting Alexandra. Mr and Mrs V. G. Cavanagh are visitors to the town. Mr W. Kinaston, of Dunedin, is the guest of his daughter, Mrs W. J. Russell. Mr and Mrs Stan Parris, of Dunedin, are in Alexandra. Mr and Mrs Frank Calley, of Invercargill, are visiting Alexandra. Mr Calley was a few years ago a member of the local Post Office staff. Mr and Mrs C. R. McLean and family, of Dunedin, are staying in Alexandra. Mr and Mrs H. M. Maekay, of Dunedin, are in Alexandra. Mr and Mrs J. G. Imlay and family, of Invercargill, are spending a holiday here. The Rev. Mr Horwell and Mrs Horwell, of Dunedin, are visiting Alexandra. Miss Maud Hull, of Wellington, has been visiting her father, Mr H. H. Hull. Mr and Mrs W. A. Mitson. of Dunedin, are visitors to the town. Mr and Mrs J. D. Watt are at present' on a visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs T. E. Sutherland are spending 1 holiday at Brighton. Mrs A. P. Scott has her two sons, Basil and Colin, home for Christmas. Both were recently repatriated from prisoner of war camps, after having been prisoners for about four years. Miss Jessie Scott is visiting Kaka Point. Mr and Mrs R. Simmers, of Dunedin, are at present in Alexandra. The Rev. A. Kernahan, of First Church, Invercargill, is visiting Alexandra, and will conduct the service in the Presbyterian Church to-morrow evening.
