LUXURY LINERS
FITTINGS .BEING REINSTALLED SCHEDULES NOT INTERRUPTED LONDON, Jan. 1. The Aquitania, which is due at Southampton on Thursday, is carrying the internal fittings of the liner Queen Mary, which were stored in Australia during the war. The work of reinstalling the decorations, furniture, murals, and paintings, which were a feature of Britain’s pre-war luxury liners, will be undertaken gradually, and will go on while the liners are still engaged in troop-carrying. The fittings of the Mauretania, Queen Elizabeth. and Aquitania were stored in San Francisco during the war. By doing the work piecemeal without interrupting the liners' heavy troop-carrying schedules, the Ministry of War Transport hopes to cut down the period the liners must ultimately spend in drydock refitting.
