Peter Gazelle A long price is said to have been paid for Peter Gazelle, but after his showing in the Bray Hack Handicap at Waikouaiti he looks a dear horse at over four figures. Too Late Foxchase put in a good run on the rails after being last into the straight in the Waikouaiti Cup. Her effort was far too late, however, to gain her a place. Favourite Beaten Lyndall had a 71b allowance in the Toomey Memorial Handicap, for which she started favourite. Sterling Lad had her beaten shortly after they turned into the straight. Return to Form Tiie Waikouaiti Cup was a good betting race, although Foxhaven started in fairly strong demand. He won so well that he should go close to more success if produced at Oamaru. Failed to Come On Double Cross and Grand Forest both looked dangerous at the home turn in the Waikouaiti Cup, but they both failed to finish on over the final furlong. Promising Youngster It is reported that. Mr E. N. Fitzgerald has a yearling full-brother to Golae; Souvenir (Lang Bian—Valadore) among his young thoroughbred stock at Gisborne, and that this youngster looks better at tiie same age than the New Zealand Cup winner. Won Going Away The Bray Hack Handicap was a good betting race between Peter Gazelle, Grill, and Montezuma. Peter Gazelle led into the straight, but collapsed, and Grill won galloping* away. Joy Rosa Joy Rosa, who won going away in the I-lawkesbury Hack Handicap, is a four-year-old filly by Salmagundi—Golden Vision, by Paper Money—Mellray, by Kllbroney—Elysium, by Stepniak. Cromwell Club The officials of the Cromwell Jockey Club are already making preparations for the meeting lo be held on March 8 and 9. As a preliminary the track has been put in order and necessary improvements are being carried out so that the meeting may be held under the best possible conditions.
