ROBBED OF £l6O
FARMER ATTACKED AND BOUND MONEY TAKEN FROM POCKET (P.A.) WHANGAREI, Dec. 31. Late on Saturday Mr Edward Brennan, aged 59, was attacked in his own home at Taheke and robbed of over £l6O. Mr Brennan had returned to his house on completing the evening milking, and on opening the back door was struck on the head by someone standing behind the dbor. He fell to the floor and was immediately covered with a blanket and bed cover by his assailant. His legs were tied together with a rope, and one wrist was tied to the leg of a bench. The money was then taken from his trousers pocket. After some time Mr Brennan released himself with his free hand, and went to the home of a neighbour, where he was attended for cuts above and below the eye. The blanket, bed cover and rope were owned by Mr Brennan, and appeared to have been made ready for a premeditated attack. A hammer was found lying on the blanket.
