LADY GALWAY GUILD

FINE EFFORT FOR U.N.R.R.A. When the executive committee of the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild met recently at Government House, Wellington, with her Excellency Lady Newall in the chair, it was reported that in the special drive for clothing for the United Nations' Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, branches of the guild had contributed 4859 cases of clothing out of a total of 6660 cases. The central co-ordinating committee for the drive had placed a value of £1 for each pound weight of the garments, and on that basis the total value of the garments packed was £1,294,720. Besides helping with the U.N.R.R.A drive, branches carried out their usual activities, and since the previous meeting 214 cases of goods had been sent to Britain, the total being made up as follows: .Auckland 39, Christchurch 33, Invercargill 11, Napier 15, Timaru 26, and Wellington 90. In addition, the Wellington branch had forwarded nine cases of clothing to Russia. It was also stated that assistance had been given in the provision of clothing for internees released from the Japanese.
