Macrae's-Moonlight. The Coronation Hall, Macrae’s Flat, was recently the scene of a bright evening, the occasion being the twelfth birthday of the Women’s Institute. The hall, which was beautifully decorated, was packed to capacity. Visiting members arrived from Hyde. Middlemarch, Palmerston, Dunback, and Karitane. During the evening vocal solos were contributed by Mrs Ramsay, Miss June Stanley, and Mr Milne. A recitation was given by Mrs J. Hay. Before the cutting of the cake Mrs Summers made a presentation to Miss Betty Stanley from the institute. During the year competitions were held, and Miss Betty Stanley was the member who received the highest points. In making the presentation the president congratulated her on her success. Bright music was supplied by the Victory Band from Goodwood, and dancing was indulged in until the early hours cf the morning. Clydevale.—The December meeting was presided over by Mrs Cooksley. The motto was, “To live for self is to live for sorrow.” The roll call, ” Bring books and magazines for hospital use,” was well responded to. Mr Burrows and Mrs Wilkes, of Gore, demonstrated the art of making wreaths and sprays, and also answered many questions regarding problems of members' gardens. This proved most interesting and educative and the demonstrators received a hearty vote of thanks. The competitions resulted:— Child’s feeder for hospital—Mrs Cooksley 1, Mrs May 2, Mrs King 3; slice of Christmas cake—Mrs Cooksley 1, Mrs NehofF 2, Mrs Cooksley 3; knitted singlet for the Lady Galway Fund, Mrs King 1, Flowers were sent to the Balclutha Hospital. Karitane.—Mrs Te Tau presided over the final meeting of the year. After the business was finished an enjoyable social was held Sprays were presented to the officers. The motto was, “ I come the last of all, my songs are carols sung at every shrine, proclaiming, ' Peace on earth, goodwill to men.’ ” The roll call was an exchange of parcels to the value of Is 6d, and much amusement was caused by answering, " Where we first met our husbands.” Three sewing prizes were on show, to be presented to school children —a silver thimble and two work boxes The home-made Christmas gift competition resulted:—Mrs R. Peden 1, Mrs Te Tau 2; bloom—Mrs Paterson 1, Mrs Tubman, Mrs G. Peden, and Mrs Stewart 2 (equal). Games and competitions were enjoyed, and humorous items were rendered by Mrs Glanville, solos by Mrs Taiaroa. and action songs by Maori party. The hostesses were Mrs Glanville and Mrs Wyith. South Hill.—Mrs Webb presided. The motto was: “It is more pleasant to givcthan to receive,” and the'roll-cal! was, “A verse from your autograph book.” Commencing on February 14, the monthly social afternoons are to be in aid of drama funds. It was decided to hold the picnic on January 26, and to recommence the card evenings on January 7. Mrs Sherwdn gave a reading on “ Flower Day in Adelaide.” Items were presented by Misses Christie, Taylor, E. Crombie. and Mrs Nye. Mrs A. Sherwin proposed a vote of thanks to the performers. Sprays ■were presented to Mesdames Loder, Crombie, Misses Crombie, Taylor, and Christie. The competitions resulted:— Pancakes, Mrs Paterson 1; gift costing not more than Is 6d, Mrs Paterson 1, Mrs McNattty 2; spray, Mrs McNatt.y 1, Mrs Paterson 2. Hostesses were Mesdames Nye, McNatty, Nicholson, and Park.
