CARISBROOK’S LEAD' INCREASED OUTRIGHT WIN OVER GRANGEUNIVERSITY The fourth round of matches in the Otago Cricket Association's senior competition was concluded on Saturday i.i perfect playing conditions. The weather was warm and calm, and the wickets were in good order. There was not much life in the cricket owing to the fact that practically all the teams were short of players. In the match against Grange-Univer-sity at Carisbrook, Carisbrook A scored an outright win, and increased its lead in the competition to eight points. Carisbrook A declared its innings closed with two wickets down for 249 (the first day’s score) in response to the total of 76 made by Grange-Uni-versity on the previous Saturday. The combined team, which was without the services of C. D. Toomey, L. C. Baker, and T. A. Freeman, began well in its second innings, and A. Moir and C. C. Donovan added 103 for the second wicket, Moir scoring 69 and Donovan 36. After the dismissal of these batsmen, however, the side was quickly disposed of by 4.30 for 130 runs, Carisbrook winning by an innings and 43 rims. Bowling for Carisbrook, A. W. McDougall obtained three wickets for 17 runs and R. Carter three for 57. Old Boys defeated Kaikorai by 15 runs on the first innings in the match at Bishopscourt, Kaikorai being dismissed for 135 in reply to Old Boys’ total of 150. K. Burke 30, E. Cameron 26, and G. McGregor were the principal contributors to the score. Bowling for Old Boys, V. J. Leader took six wickets for 38 runs. Going in again, Old Boys played holiday cricket and lost seven wickets for 74, of which V. McArley made 36 (retired). McGregor took five wickets for 31 runs. Albion-Y.M.C.A.-North-East Valley and Dunedin-Carisbrook B both took the field short of several players in the match at Tonga Park, where on the first day Dunedin had made 220 and Albion Combined 84 for the loss of three wickets. The north end team scored 291 runs, and then endeavoured io secure an outright win by dismissing the depleted Dunedin team in the hour left for play. After losing three wickets quickly, however, Dunedin played out time and had 66 runs on the board for three wickets at stumps. Albion-Y.M.C.A.-North-East Valley won on the first innings. The principal scorers for Albion Combined were L. Watson 54 (retired), R. Peart 52, and E. Watson 30, while J. O’Sullivan made an attractive 30 for Dun-edin-Carisbrook B. At the end of the fourth round of matches Carisbrook A still heads the list with 24 points, and then come Albion-Y.M.C.A.-North-East Valley 18, Old Boys 17, Kaikorai 8. Grange-Um-versity 6, Dunedin-Carisbrook B 5.
