LAWN TENNIS The' matches in the south end of the Maniototo Lawn Tennis Association’s competition were continued on Saturday last in fine weather. Comfortable wins were scored by the first teams from the Ranfurly and Patearoa Clubs, but the match between Kokonga and Kyeburn was more closely contested, the result being in doubt till the last set. Scores: —Kokonga 9 sets (98 games), Kyeburn 7 sets (84 games); Patearoa A 13 sets (93 games), Ranfurly B 3 sets (44 games); Ranfurly A 12 sets (108 games), Patearoa B 4 sets (78 games). SCHOOL BREAK-UPS The first year’s work of the new Sacred Heart School was brought to a close on Thursday of last week, when a prize-giving function was held at the school. Guests at the function were the rector, teachers and members of the committee of the local District High School. The prizes were presented by the Rev. Father Tylee, the principal awards being as follows: — Dux, Kevin Weir; school leaving certificates —K. Weir, D. Bleach, Leslie Sinclair, and Maev Kearney. The District High School year’s wprk was brought to a close by the holding of a successful concert in the Ranfurly Hall on Friday night. At the interval Mr A. S, Bell, on behalf of the committee, and Mr Campbell (rector) addressed the parents and children present, and the following prizes were presented: —Dux, Brian Bell; school leaving certificates —Brian Bell, A. Blakely, D. Blakely, P. Sawens, Joyce Ranee, J. Sizemore, J. Bums, E. Duncan, and D. Kennedy.
