Captain A. G. W. Dunningham, of the Army Education and Welfare Service, arrived from the north yesterday on leave. Mr F. W. Knight will leave on Monday by-the Central Otago train for Cromwell. He will then visit Queenstown and Invercargill. Cr R. F. Barr, chairman of the City Council Library Committee, and the city librarian (Mr A. G. W. Dunningham) have been appointed to represent the council at the annual conference of the New Zealand Library Association, to be held at Auckland from February 5 to February 7. Lieutenant-commander J. C. Seelye, formerly senior naval officer at Dunedin, left for the north yesterday to take up a new appointment in the Navy Office in Wellington. Lieutenant W. Williamson has taken over the duties of resident naval officer at Dunedin. Owing to pressure of University work, Dr V. E. Galway has found it necessary to relinquish the position of organist and choirmaster at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Great regret was expressed at a meeting of the cathedral vestry at Dr Galway's decision, and a minute appreciative of his outstanding services was recorded. A tribute to the work of Messrs R. C. Tuck and S. G. Emslie, who are leaving the staff of the King’s High School shortly, was paid by Mr W. R. Brugh, chairman of the High Schools Board, at the annual prize-giving ceremony of the school yesterday. Mr Brugh also complimented the women teachers who had held positions on the staff during the war years for their valuable endeavours. Passengers who left for the north by the airliner yesterday were Lieutenant J. Milner. Sister I. Baird. Mr A. Andrew. Mr A. Jeavons, Mrs D. Jefcoate, Miss Jefcoate, and Dr W. Riddell, for Wellington, Mr R. Coates, Mr M. Butterfield, and Dr B. Monheimer, for Auckland. Passengers who arrived by the afternoon plane were Mrs J. Carter and Mr E. H. Chapman, from Auckland, Miss R. Caudwell, Mrs P. F. Morine, Mr J. W. Ellison, Mr L. Tucket, and Mrs M. Parfitt, from Wellington, and Mrs West from Christchurch. Passengers who left for the south were Mr and Mrs C. S. Martin, Dr D. S. Martin, Mr R. D. Rowe, Mr J. Doyle, Mr R. C. Burgess, Mr R. B. Langley, Mrs West, Mrs M. Parfitt, and Mr R. J. Timpany.
