BREAD DELIVERIES

CHRISTCHURCH SCHEME CITY COUNCIL’S INTEREST (Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 14. “The Master Bakers’ Association is willing to meet the council-—in fact, anxious—to discuss the question of the reintroduction of deliveries of bread to homes,” said the Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrews) in a statement to-aay. If a modified form of delivery at the gate, payment to be by coupons purchased m advance, were introduced, the problem might be solved, he said. At the meeting of the City Council on Monday night the Mayor will propose the appointment of a subcommittee of five members to represent the council at discussions with the bakers. Mr Andrews said he had no doubts that his suggestion would be adopted, and, in anticipation, he had arranged for the association’s depiP tation to meet the sub-committee and himself next Wednesday evening. Mr Andrews said he had been unofficially informed that one big bakery firm was anxious to introduce home deliveries. The questions of costs and the 40-hour week would also be raised, he understood, by the Master Bakers’ Association.
