GRAIN AND PRODUCE

EXPORT LICENCE FOR OATS MARKETS REMAIN QUIET The rain, which has been general throughout the province during the week, has ensured the growth of all cereal crops for some time to come, and what is needed now is a period of heat to bring the crops on quickly. An odd line or two of wheat is still coming to hand. Where suitable, it is going to the mills, while undergrade lines find a ready market for fowl wheat. Flour, Bran, etc. Flour: 200's, £l3 15s; 100’s, £l4 12s 6d; 50’s, £l4 17s 6d; 25’s, £ls 7s 6d. Pollard, £6 15s per ton of 20001 b. Bran, £5 5s per ton of 20001 b. Oatmeal: 20001 b sacks, £25 10s 0d per ton; 251 b loose, £27 0s 6d; 251 b packed in sacks of eight, £27 10s 6d. Oats and Chaff The Government has indicated that it is prepared to grant an export licence for "oats to countries other than Australia, and it is just possible that an outlet may be found for some of the surplus oats at present available. There is no local demand in the meantime, and there is also very little inquiry from the North Island. There is an outlet, locally, for any good bright lines of oaten sheaf chaff, but deliveries at this time of the year are naturally small. Values remain unchanged at £7 per ton. ex truck Dunedin, sacks extra. Potatoes Old potatoes are now finished, and the market is being entirely supplied with new crop tubers. The latest reports from the North Island indicate that, owing to the very dry weather, the potato crops in the main growing centres are light. This fact, together with the fairly substantial order for the Navy, has completely altered the position, as a montn ago it appeared as if there would be a heavy surplus of new potatoes, for which it would be difficult to find an outlet. Seeds Perennial ryegrass, white clover, Montgomery red clover, and cowgrass are stilL being inquired for, but very little good quality seed is available. There is no inquiry at the moment for crested dogstail or cocksfoot. With the end of the season in sight, very little interest is being taken in other lines. .
