TROTTING NOTES
By • Sentinel Jottings Withdrawals in connection with the Gore Trotting Club’s meeting must be made on Monday. The Timaru Trotting Club will have, a programme with £3OOO in stakes for its January meeting. The stakes represent an increase of £750 over the amount given at the last summer meeting held in 1942, , . Sahara Queen, a two-year-old sister to Gold Sheik, has been attracting attention as a possibility for classic events to be decided later in the season. Canterbury Park The following nominations were received for the principal event of the Canterbury Park meeting:—Canterbury Handicap, of £2OOO. Class 4.23. Two miles—Shadow Maid, Loyal Friend, Happy Man, Bulldozer, Burt* Scott, Lady Dawn, Clockwork, Knave of Diamonds, Bronze Eagle, Parshall, Dusky Sound, Battle Colours. Sapling Stakes Winner The Sapling Stakes winner, Sprayman, has been off colour, but is expected to be back to racing shape for the holiday meetings. Admiration Admiration was confidently supported in the Forbury Handicap, but it is reported that she struck trouble in the running and did not get a chance to do her best. Qn looks, this daughter of Bonny Logan should go a long way. As her mile record of 2min 7 4-ssec shows, Bonny Logan was a good performer herself, and it is not surprising that all of her progeny to race have been winners. To Rey de Oro she left Gaillard, already a sire of several winners, Prosecutor, Safety Pin and Captain Morant. Her 1934 foal to Frank Worthy was Bayard, who took a two-mile record of 4min 13 2-ssec, and to Grattan Loyal she produced Coquette, Bonny Bridge, and Admiration. Admiration is engaged in the Snowdon Trot at Hororata to-day, and she may make amends for her defeat at Forbury.
