MILTON MAGISTRATE’S COURT There was only a short sitting of the Milton Magistrate’s Court yesterday. In the absence through illness of the stipendiary magistrate, Mr A. E. Dobbie. Messrs W. H. Hitchon and L. W. Potter. J.P.’s, presided. Leonard Allan Murdoch (Milton), Lawrence Albert Grosse (Dunedin), Mervyn Harvev (Milton), Ivan King (Heiensbrook), and James D. S. Lyall (Heiensbrook) were each fined 15s, with court costs (10s), on a charge of cycling without lights. Munro McKay Morrison (Balclutha) was charged on the information of Traffic Inspector K. J. Kennedy with parking a car too far from the kerb. Tire inspector said that the car was parked Bft 6in from the kerb outside the Coronation Hall. The defendant • was fined 20s, with costs (10s). Joseph Maxwell Foreman (Dunedin) was charged with driving a motor cycle without a driver’s licence, and was fined 15s, with costs (10s). Y.W.C.A. Mrs James Gray presided over the final committee meeting of the year of the Y.W.C.A. Committee. After the formal business had been transacted. Miss J. Stevenson was introduced to the members, and gave an Interesting talk on her work and travels and the people with whom she had come in contact in the Philippines and India during the wgr years. She was accorded a vote of thanks on the motion of Mrs A. F. Wethey. Afternopn tea and a social chat concluded the gathering. PERSONAL An enjoyable evening was spent in the Motorists’ Refreshment Rooms on Tuesday evening, when the staff of Gray’s Big Store entertained Mr and Mrs James Gray and family at a complimentary dinner. Each lady member of the family was presented with a floral spray. A short toast list followed the dinner, Mr H. F. Adam acting as chairman. The toasts were interspersed with vocal and instrumental items by members of the staff. At the conclusion Mr J. B. Gray entertained thfe party with an interesting series of pictures taken with his “ movie 1 ’ camera.
