LADIES’ BRASS BAND
The " wind-up ” social evening and dance of the Ladies’ Brass Band was held in the Cave’s Cabaret on Tuesday night. There was a large attendance. Mrs H. Davie, the hostess, welcomed the guests, who included the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs D. C. Cameron. Mrs Cameron is the patroness of the band. Dancing was much enjoyed to the music of the Silverton Dance Band, the programme including old and modern dances. Mr J. F. Himburg was M.C. Miss Therza Waters gave a cornet solo, which was much appreciated. Mr J. Dixon (president) thanked the Mayor and Mayoress for honouring the band by their presence. He also congratulated the members of the band on their loyaltv, and expressed the view that,‘under their’conductor, Mr H. Davie, they would give a good account of themselves at the Christchurch contest next year. Miss Betty Scott presented the Mayoress and Miss Norma Wood presented Mrs Davie with beautiful floral sprays. The recipients thanked the members for their kind thought. Presentations were also made by Miss Doreen O’Hara to Mr Davie (conductor), and by Miss Vera Downes to> Mr Himburg (concert manager) for their work during the year. Messrs Davie and Himburg suitably replied. The Mayor offered his congratulations to the band, stating that it was a great asset to the city.
