CITY COUNCIL REPORTS Testing of Motor Vehicles The chief traffic inspector (Mr E. H. Barrett), in his report for November, states that during the month 393 motor drivers’ licences were issued, making a total of 10,384 to date. At the motor testing station 893 warrants of fitness were issued, compared with 787 for the same period last year. The General Committee will report that Mr E. A. H. Turner has submitted his resignation as a testing officer at the motor testing station and this has been accepted. Johnston) and the chief traffic inspector (Mr E. H. Barrett) has been appointed to consider the applications, when received, and submit a recommendation to the next meeting of the council. Special Expenditure The Finance Committee will report that the application of the council for the necessary legislative authority to make grants to the Dunedin Development Council and to expend moneys on the celebration of the centennial of the province of Otago has been •ipproved and the necessary authority provided in the Local Legislation Act, 1945. Instructions to Engineer. The city engineer has been instructed to act in connection with the following matters:— The erection of nine and a-half chains of protection fence along the wall at the Water of Leith, Malvern street. The cost is estimated at £l5O. The construction of one chain of walling at the Water of Leith, Malvern street, where scouring is at present taking place, at an estimated cost of £6OO.
