LUXURY BUILDING

SOLDIERS’ HOUSING PLANS DELAYED R.S.A. TO TAKE ACTION (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec, 14. As part of a campaign to see that returned servicemen are fairly treated in the matter of housing, the executive of the Auckland R.S.A. decided last night “to go into action” against people erecting luxury buildings and carrying out unnecessary alterations and additions while soldiers’ housing plans are held up through lack of timber and other materials. On the suggestion of the chairman, Mr A. P. Postlewaite, it was decided to find out how many permits to buy timber had been issued to returned men and to non-service civilians during the past 12 months, to take photographs of luxury houses recently built, together with unnecessary alterations, and to photograph dwellings for returned servicemen' held up through lack of materials. These photographs are to be exhibited so that the public can see what is going on. In addition, it was resolved to approach the various unions with a view to declaring unnecessary work “ black.” An allegation was made that timber for unnecessary work was being obtained from the black market.
